Custom-made database-driven applications
We build applications using open source languages and tools to save your organization money in licenses.
- We use Ruby or Python for standalone applications.
- We use Ruby on Rails, PHP or Django for web-based applications.
Web-based applications
A web-based application is one that can be accessed through a browser and resides on a server instead of on a local computer.
Access through the Internet
One option is to install the application on a web server and users can access it through the Internet with a valid username and password.
Access through your organization's intranet
Another option is to install the application on your organization's intranet and users can login to the application through the connection method used to access the intranet.
The advantages of a web-based application
Cross-platform compatibility
A web-based application can be accessed from any operating system. There is no need to build a Windows version, a Mac version and a Linux version of the application.
Mobility
Since every computer has a browser, the web-based application can be accessed anywhere in the world with a valid username and password.
Easy installation
The installation of such an application is easier and faster by deploying the application to the web server instead of installing it on every computer in the organization.
Easy upgrades
The maintenance of a web-based application is better by deploying an upgrade to the web server instead of upgrading every computer in the organization.
Easy user management
The administrator of the application can manage users more easily by adding, editing, deleting users and permissions in a centralized administrative interface.
Hardware compatibility
Some computers may not have enough memory or hard drive space to install and run a big application. Since a web-based application does not reside on a local computer, these older computers can also run the application through a browser.
Data stays on server
There is no data processing on a local computer. The data is processed on the data server and displayed in a browser. If a workstation or an employee's notebook computer gets stolen, there is no risk of the data getting compromised.
